elektra release of charlotte gainsbourgs third studio album titled irm. the title is derived from m.r.i, which reflects the medical procedure charlotte had to go through after suffering a head injury in a water skiing accident in 2007. the album is charlottes most personal to date, and is produced by acclaimed grammy nominated artist/multi-instrumentalist beck. what started as a brief recording session between charlotte gainsbourg and beck ended up to be the body of work that is irm. over the course of a year and a half of writing and recording together, becks role grew to encompass all aspects of the creative process. he worked seamlessly with charlotte co writing the lyrics and produced and mixed the recording. lobster theremin present their first label album, a double lp from chicago resident and elusive young talent, chicago jim. having cut his teeth on a life growing up in the windy city, jim s reverent ability to spin synthopian tales of old-school chicago and the birth of house music are a genuine reflection of a talent rarely seen at the helm of records in the post-00 s. label head jimmy asquith discovered the album online, originally released through chicago tape imprint pretty all right, and after streaming one track said tape was swiftly purchased and absorbed.

anything eddie ruscha touches is generally worth checking, and this latest outing for lectric sands offshoot it’s a lectric world is no exception. ruscha kicks things off with the electric dub, an untypically funky fusion of his usual vivid psychedelics, exotic vocal samples, crunchy guitars and an undulating disco-rock groove. the original rub - all bubbling electronics, muted guitar licks and deep house warmth - adds a little balearic disco flavour, before ruscha returns to more familiar territory with the delay-laden and pleasingly out-there lectric dub. finally, he reaches for the marimbas on the pleasing dub, an afro-influenced blast of wide-eyed balearic sunshine complete with lilting pedal steel.
